A Look at Raw Motion Capture and Reference Footage

Date

August 12, 2024

I’m working on the next motion set for release on the Moonjump store and Unreal Marketplace, and wanted to share a behind the scenes look of what motion capture looks like in a small studio. The reference footage on the right side is from two cameras set to reference mpeg mode inside Motive 3.1 this allows them to record video in a calibrated space and then overlay the skeleton and rigid bodies on top for export. Pretty neat!

This makes it handy to refer back to the footage if a pose doesn’t look correct and adjust it while editing. On the left is a raw input onto the Unreal 5 mannequin without any cleaning or adjusting, the hands are a common area that require a bit of tinkering to get working and aligned correctly.
